wearing hijab in a trump era

For all my hijabi sisters living in the US, this recent election may have left you anxious and afraid.

Stepping outside in hijab brings about renewed tension and social pressure-as if we needed more of that.

Reported hate crimes increased just days after the election, so there is indeed cause for concern. Trump's inflammatory speech seemed to have brought every racist and bigot out of the woodwork.

And it was then we realized the fight is still not over. It's the same fight Native Americans, African-Americans, and every other minority group in America has been fighting for so long; the fight for our rights and our dignity.

It's okay to be sad and it's okay to be afraid.

But, I want to remind you that we do not gain strength by cowering in the face of challenges, but instead by facing them head on.

We do not lower our heads in fear, but tilt them higher in pride.

Let's remind ourselves and others of the queens that we are.

We're going to get through this,

stronger & wiser,

because God is our protector.

And lastly, I just want to say that I love you all.

Stay brave, stay bold,

Amara Team <3
